SPEED-O-MOTIVE HISTORY IN SERVICE
For over 60 years, we offered the most innovative stroker and engine combinations helping racers build maximum horsepower on a realistic budget. Beginning with our first Flathead Ford stroker kit, we have always adhered to the following principles:

FLAWLESS MACHINE WORK AND BALANCING - Stroker combinations require custom machining for clearance and durability. All our kits are priced to include proprietary machine work assuring you ease of assembly. We perform all balancing and machining in house to our specifications

NAME BRAND PARTS - For over 60 years, we have worked closely with our suppliers to develop new and improved products. Our engine builds include products purchased from best in the buisness such as: Clevite 77 Bearings, JE/SRP Pistons & Rings, MSD Ignition, Cometition Cams, DART Blocks & Heads, HOLLEY Carburation, ARP Engine Fasteners, Milodon, and Fel-Pro Gaskets just to name afew....

CUSTOM PREPARATION - Each order is prepared as it's ordered, allowing us to quickly customize a kit or engine to your exact specifications for compression, oversize, etc. Unlike our competitors, we do not charge extra for this customization service.

WHY BUY FROM SPEED-O-MOTIVE?

QUALITY MACHINING
Speed-O-Motive works closely with Rottler Manufacturing developing new applications for the CNC F65 machining center. A CNC is the only equipment capable of truly blueprinting a block.

A custom blue print specification sheet is prepared for each engine at the time of order placement so each is custom machined for its particular use. For example, a marine block is machined with different tolerances than a street application. Only through the use of CNC equipment are we able to economically prepare each block to exacting tolerances.

LINE BORING/HONING
Most machine shops can only line hone the mains, which at best follows the original line bore. A skilled machinist must allow for uneven stone wear.

The CNC guarantees all the caps are in-line straight, perpendicular off the crankshaft centerline. Cutting depth is accurately controlled so even though every block is line bored, there is no need to use an undersized timing chain. CNC line boring is so accurate there is no need to final hone. An accurate line bore minimizes friction and prolongs bearing life.

STROKER CLEARANCING
Typical stroker engine assembly requires crank kit mock-up in the block. A hand held grinder is used to provide clearance between the block and rod and hope you don't break through.

CNC machining enables us to grind off the crankshaft centerline. By programming the crankshaft stroke, rod width and desired clearance we can remove the least amount of material insuring block integrity. Also, clearancing is straight off the crank centerline correcting for block core shift.

BLOCK RESURFACING
Most machine shops only resurface the block to obtain proper rh for gasket sealing. A skilled machinist is limited by the accuracy of his measuring tools to square the block surface from the main bearing housing.

The CNC digitally measures the block height so the surface can be machined square from bank to bank. The surface is also square front to back. Typically, our blocks are machined zero deck or exactly flush with the top of the pistons. This enables beneficial squish or quench for controlling detonation and increasing power, (reference our new engine building tips for additional detail). The resurface finish can be controlled to a finer finish for using the new MLS gaskets.

BORING
The Rottler F65 blueprints each block by exactly boring each cylinder on-center. This places each rod journal exactly centered on the crank, reducing friction. You can feel the difference.

HONING
Rottler has introduced a superior hone that is load sensing. This permits us to hone a block with greater accuracy, .0001" of an inch. Diamond stones are used for improved consistency. Final honing is done with a plateau stone., which removes microscopic embedded debris as well as removing sharp edges on the cylinder wall. The benefit is a quicker seating ring with less leak-down. We quality control our engines by measuring air loss after assembly and have reduced leak-down from 10% to 2% using this new honing process.

BALANCING
All kits and engines are balanced to .5gram when proper harmonic damper, flexplate and or flywheel is purchased from or supplied to Speed O Motive.

CYLINDER HEAD BLUEPRINTING
We disassemble all cylinder heads to insure valves and seats are ground properly, the correct springs are installed, and cyl head deck is flat and true. Valves and seats are ground on rottler cnc equipment to insure accuracy.

SPECIALTY MACHINING
The ROTTLER F65A machining center is capable of cost effectively performing specialty machining operations usually only done on top racing engines. This truly enables you to build the engine of your dreams. These operations include: machining cam tunnel for roller bearings, installing Darton M.I.D. sleeves in Honda's and LS-1's, machining "O" rings in the deck, truing and sizing lifter bores and squaring all surfaces including the bell-housing, timing cover or even the oil pan rail.
